Bio
Terence Brennan is a consumer protection and civil rights attorney in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a 2003 cum laude graduate of the Temple University Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia, where he finished in the top 15% of his class and was honored for having earned the top grade of his class in Constitutional Law.
Attorney Brennan is an experienced negotiator and advocate. As a consumer protection attorney, he has successfully defended debtors against numerous collection suits by credit card companies and “debt buyers” such as Midland Funding, Cavalry SPV I, West Asset Purchasing, and others. He has successfully taken on some of the nation’s most powerful banks over foreclosure misconduct, and sued debt collectors and used car dealers who violate the rights of consumers. As a civil rights lawyer, Attorney Brennan has taken on powerful developers over controversial fair housing issues, negotiating one of the only settlements in the history of Cincinnati regarding the displacement of low-income housing.
Prior to opening his law office in Ohio, Attorney Brennan represented local chapters of the N.A.A.C.P. in New Jersey, where he successfully pursued litigation and community strategies to expand fair housing while alleviating the burdens of poverty on distressed cities and older, “first ring” suburbs. He played an instrumental role in negotiating a substantial settlement with the fastest growing township on the East Coast, securing zoning and financing for hundreds of new units of affordable housing, and also co-drafted a successful constitutional challenge to New Jersey’s affordable housing regulations, requiring the State housing agency to conduct a complete overhaul of its programs. Back in Ohio, he collaborated with community and clergy leaders to negotiate local hiring and job training provisions in the Master Development Agreement of a multi-million dollar public works project.
Attorney Brennan’s legal career has been shaped by a diverse set of experiences. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he served a year with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in The Bronx, where he worked with HIV+ homeless persons and formerly homeless children. He later received a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to teach English and American Politics in Vienna, Austria and then returned to New York to earn a Master’s in Political Science while directing a homeless street outreach team for Catholic Charities in Brooklyn.
Terence Brennan is a native of Columbus, Ohio and a graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School, where he was All-Ohio in Track & Field. He is a 1993 graduate of John Carroll University in Cleveland and has earned masters degrees in Political Science and German. He currently lives in the City of Cincinnati with his wife and two children.
